A Study of the Law and the Covenants

Mosaic Covenant

What specifically is the Mosaic Covenant?

Here are the highlights straight from Scripture.

1)"Deut. 4:13
And He declared to you HIS COVENANT which He commanded to you to perform,
that is, the TEN COMMANDMENTS; and He wrote them on two tables of stone."

So what is the Mosaic Covenant? THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!

And again:

2) Exodus 34:28
"And He wrote on the TABLETS the words of the COVENANT, THE TEN
COMMANDMENTS."

3) Deut 9:9 "When I went up into the mountain to receive the TABLETS of
STONE, the TABLETS OF THE COVENANT which the Lord made with you, then I
stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor
drank water.

4) Deut 9:11 "And it came to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights,
that the Lord gave me the TWO TABLETS OF STONE, THE TABLETS OF THE COVENANT".

5) DEUT 9:15 "So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain
burned with fire; and the TWO TABLETS OF THE COVENANT were in my two hands.

6) DEUT 10:4 "And He wrote on the TABLETS according to the first writing,
the TEN COMMANDMENTS, which the Lord had spoken to you in the mountain from
the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly; and the Lord gave them to
me.

Summary
The Mosaic Covenant is specifically: Given to Moses, written on 2 tablets of stone, and is quite specifically the 10 Commandments evidenced by these 6 clear Scriptural verses above.

However Scripture tell us that after this Mosaic Covenant there is to be a "NEW COVENANT".

Jeremiah 31: 31-32: "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will
make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
31:32 "NOT ACCORDING to the COVENANT that I made with their fathers in the
day that I took them by the hand TO LED THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT, My
covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.

There is to be a NEW Covenant …NOT like the one that was made earlier, when
"GOD LED OUT OF EGYPT"!

What Covenant did God give after HE led them out of Egypt?

God gave the Mosaic Covenant, the ones that are on the 2 tablets of stone, which is specifically "the 10 Commandments"!

In Scripture we find the following terms:
The "Law",- The "Covenant",- the "LAW of the Covenant", - "The tablets of
the Law"-"the Law that is on stone," or "The preaching of Moses", "the Law of Moses", these terms are used interchangeably throughout Scripture.

So what is the OLD Covenant? Biblically it’s the 10 Commandments.
Although in Exodus 20 the law was given right up to chapter 31- one continuous law but it’s specifically the 10 Commandments.

Since we know that the Mosaic Covenant is the 10 Commandments and Scripture says there is going to be a New Covenant lets see what the Bible has to say about what happens to the Old Covenant of Moses, so what happens to the 10 Commandments?
