Former Adventist Ministries Making Impact on SDA Church
Andy Nash admits Life Assurance Ministries www.lifeassuranceministries.org (LAM) is making an impact on the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In his February 17, 2011 article, "Remembering to Laugh," well-known Adventist author Andy Nash acknowledges the impact that former Adventist ministries are having on the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Large numbers of Adventists are now searching the web and discovering that the Bible can't support much of what they were taught.
Nash stresses the continued need to explain the Adventist interpretation of Colossians 2 because "…the topic is relevant to church members who might have run into the buzz-saw of Life Assurance Ministries and their campaign against Sabbath rest and other Adventist beliefs." It's rare to have an Adventist publication, much less the "flagship" magazine, admit that a former Adventist apologetic ministry is making an impact on the church.
Our experience has been that those at LAM are gentle and gracious in their presentation of truth. It's just hard for Adventists to hear anyone disagree with their doctrines with clear, rational, biblical support. These kinds of efforts are always viewed as attacks from so-called "embittered and wounded" former Adventists.
We suppose that many a Christian church has run into the buzz-saw of Adventist evangelism as they watch a church member being proselytized in a Revelation Seminar. Andy, one question for you: "Why is presenting the 'Truth' in Adventist evangelism okay, but when former Adventists do the same thing they're buzz-sawing?" Is it because you're right and they're wrong?
One more thought: When non-Adventist Christian ministries challenge Adventist doctrines the Adventist church responds graciously and generally tries to present themselves as fellow-evangelicals. When former Adventists do the same, they're met with the full wrath of the Adventist church. Go figure.
